Rejuvenate and refresh your complexion at MacLeod Trail Plastic Surgery with Microneedling! Microneedling is a skincare procedure that uses tiny sterile needles in a mechanized pen to puncture the skin. This controlled injury to the skin stimulates a healing cascade where new collagen is sent to the treatment area to replace old, depleted or damaged collagen. This innovative treatment has been used to treat various skin issues ranging from wrinkles and fine lines, scarring, and laxity. Many patients have seen a significant improvement in their overall complexion through a series of microneedling treatments.
Benefits of Microneedling
This powerful facial rejuvenation treatment has little downtime and can refresh your appearance with minimal discomfort. Patients at our Calgary Plastic Surgery clinic have reported a reduction in scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and an overall smoother complexion and improved skin elasticity.
How Microneedling Works?
As our skin naturally ages, we lose collagen. Collagen is a protein that plays an essential role in providing structure and elasticity to your skin. Microneedling provides an effective way to naturally stimulate collagen production. The procedure delicately pricks your skin causing micro-injuries which our body responds to by sending collagen and elastin to the trauma site. The influx of collagen and elastin helps patch up these pinpricks and promotes healthy youthful skin. Your Calgary Medical Aesthetician will also add therapeutic skin care products during your treatment to further infuse nutrient-rich and healing ingredients into your skin!
Is Microneedling Safe?
Microneedling is safe when done by a licenced medical aesthetician. However, with any medical procedure, there are risks. Our experienced medical aesthetician at MacLeod Trail Plastic Surgery will go over the procedure to ensure you are a good candidate for microneedling, as well as walk you through pre and post care instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How long does Microneedling last? Any new collagen stimulated in the skin will be of benefit, but the aging process will continue with time, so we recommend 1-2 annual follow ups of microneedling to maintain optimal collagen stimulation.
- Do you see results after one session of Microneedling? Most people find as soon as the skin is healed that their skin is glowing and smooth. However, full collagen stimulation will take 2 months to be fully present. We suggest 1-3 treatments depending on the condition of the skin being treated. In certain cases like advanced scarring, more may be needed.
- How much does Microneedling cost in Calgary? Microneedling at Macleod Trail Plastic Surgery costs $369 + tax per treatment. This includes an infusion of growth factors and hyaluronic acid (hydrator).
- What is the downtime? Downtime is moderate, you can expect the skin to look red, splotchy and inflamed immediately after treatment. The skin will feel tender for up to 24 hours. Days 2 and 3 post-treatment, the skin will appear red, similar to a sunburn. Slight sloughing of the skin is expected around days 3 and 4. In most cases, the skin appears totally healed by day 5.
- Is it painful? We topically numb the skin for 45 minutes prior to treatment using powerful numbing ingredients that make the procedure very comfortable. The skin will feel tender for approximately 24 hours following treatment.
- How can I prepare for my Microneedling Appointment? Protect the skin from the sun by using an SPF, avoid irritating skincare products including retinol and exfoliating acids, and have gentle products to use post-procedure, which your Medical Aesthetician can recommend to you.
Microneedling is an effective minimally-invasive treatment used to stimulate collagen production and firm elastin. It has helped many restore youthfulness and plumpness to the skin.
