Everything You Need to Know About Thigh Lifts

Everything you need to know about thigh lifts
Diet and exercise is a great way to slim and tone your figure, however, there are some areas of the body that hold on to fat and excess tissue a bit tighter! The thighs can be a common area of concern for many women, as a consistent diet and exercise routine cannot target specific areas. A thigh lift is a specialized procedure that removes excess skin and tissue from the inner thigh to produce a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing contour.  Combined with other procedures, such as liposuction, a thigh lift can accentuate your natural curves and create a more defined result.

Are You a Good Candidate?

As with any surgical candidate, you should have a positive outlook and realistic expectations for what can be achieved with this procedure. You should have a stable and maintainable weight, meaning your BMI should be in the suggested range of 25-30. You should lead a healthy lifestyle, not smoke or have any significant medical conditions that would impair your ability to heal from this surgical procedure.

Smoking before and after any surgical procedure can directly affect your body’s ability to heal and can put you at a higher risk of complications and infection. At Macleod Trail Plastic Surgery, your health and safety is our top priority. It is important to be transparent with your Calgary Plastic Surgeon if you have any habits or medical conditions that could put you at risk.

How is a Thigh Lift Performed?

Your thigh lift will be performed on-site at Macleod Trail Plastic Surgery, under the expertise of one of our Royal College-certified plastic surgeons. Our surgeons are known in Calgary and throughout Canada for exceptional surgical outcomes and their compassionate care.

A general anesthesia will be administered to put you to sleep for the procedure. Your chosen Plastic Surgeon will make an incision on the inside of your thigh, the size and location of which will vary depending on how much skin and excess tissue needs to be removed for your desired result. Once the desired amount is removed, the skin will be sutured together to allow the skin to heal, leaving you with slimmer, more defined thighs.

The Recovery Process

After your surgery, a compression garment is recommended to limit swelling. Generally, patients will take two to four weeks off from work depending upon their position and expected mobility. Those with office or desk jobs can typically return after two weeks, while more strenuous or high activity positions will require additional time off. You should be able to resume normal everyday activities after four to six weeks. After surgery, you may experience swelling, discomfort, and/or bruising in the treated area, which should completely resolve within one to six weeks. The scars from the procedure will begin to fade within six months, with final surgical results achieved within nine months to one year post-surgery.
