What is Liposuction?
Am I a Good Candidate?
What are the Benefits?
Other than the ability to enhance your natural curves, liposuction has numerous other potential benefits! Studies have shown the liposuction can help to reduce inflammatory cells and blood fat levels.
Inflammatory cells are linked to cardiovascular disease, with liposuction showing the potential to reduce the total amount of these cells by up to 11%, lessening the chance of developing cardiovascular disease. In addition to this, after three months, patients benefited from a 43% reduction in triglycerides, which helped to reduce cholesterol levels. This is how liposuction can help you not only look your best, but feel it too!
What to Expect for Recovery
At Macleod Trail Plastic Surgery, we use tumescent liposuction as it reduces bruising, swelling, and bleeding. We also provide you with aftercare instructions to ensure you have the easiest recovery possible. Some key points include:
- Exercise: We encourage light exercise, such as walking, to increase blood circulation and speed up the healing process. Over time, you can gradually increase your physical activity levels but avoid anything strenuous!
- Return To Work: After liposuction, you should be able to return to work within a few days after your procedure. However this depends heavily on your job, with desk jobs having a quicker return to work than physically strenuous jobs.
- Compression: Depending on the area treated, we may recommend that you wear a compression garment to help reduce the swelling. To learn more about the benefits of compression, read our blog: The Importance of Compression after Plastic Surgery.
- Scarring: Typically, there is minimal scarring due to the small incision usually utilized by our surgeons for liposuction.
- Results: You will see results immediately, however, there will be swelling and bruising from the procedure. This swelling and bruising typically subsides over the three (3) weeks following your procedure.
Remember that each person’s recovery process is unique! Consult with your surgeon on what recovery plan is right for you.
Can I Combine Procedures?
Yes! Liposuction is typically combined with other procedures to create more comprehensive and immediate results. At our Calgary Plastic Surgery Clinic, we recommend combining procedures to allow for a single recovery period, enhanced results and potentially some cost savings as you may save on operating space, anesthesiologist fees and additional supplies associated with multiple surgeries.
Our Mommy Makeovers offer multiple procedures that are tailored to your unique needs. If you are looking to target one specific area like your abdomen or arms, liposuction can be combined with a Tummy Tuck or Arm Lift to reduce sagging skin.
