Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a very popular procedure used to help patients appear more rested and rejuvenated. At Macleod Plastic Surgery, we offer both upper and/or lower eyelid surgery to be able to meet your needs and address those areas of concern. Your Calgary plastic surgeon will help restore a rested and rejuvenated appearance to your eyes by removing excess fat and tissue from the surrounding eye area, resulting in a more open and alert appearance.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery is performed to reduce upper eyelid sagging. It can also be considered as a medical procedure as droopy eyelids can impair vision. Your surgeon will evaluate your bone structure and your facial features to determine the right adjustments to improve facial symmetry. The procedure is virtually painless as it is performed under general (or sometimes local) anesthesia.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is performed to help reduce puffiness under the eye. It is an excellent solution for those with “bags” under their eyes. Your Calgary plastic surgeon will make a small incision below your lash line to remove and reposition fat and skin. This procedure is done under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and best results.

Is it Worth It?

Many patients have said eyelid surgery is worth it. You can achieve incredible results with minimal discomfort and downtime. View our gallery to see the before and afters from our satisfied patients.

Will there be any scarring?

As with most surgical procedures, there is scarring due to the removal of skin and tissue. However, scarring is minimal and will be hidden by your surgeon in the natural creasing of your eye.

What is the cost?

The cost can vary depending on your individual needs. For some candidates, there is the potential that The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) covers this procedure if certain criteria are met. In order for it to be covered by Alberta Health Care, you will need a Letter of Referral from your general physician. Your eligibility will then be confirmed by your surgeon at your in-person consultation. For a solely cosmetic procedure, the cost is determined by your surgeon of choice.

Does it fix droopy eyelids?

As we age, the skin around our eyes can stretch and become thinner. There can also be excess skin or tissue which can result in the drooping of the eyelid. Blepharoplasty corrects droopy eyelids by removing that excess skin and tissue, leaving you looked refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does Eyelid Surgery make my Eyes Look Bigger?

Eyelid surgery will not change the size of your eyes; however, it does alter the appearance of the area surrounding your eyes. Removing access fat and skin leaves many looking more refreshed and rested which in turn makes your eyes appear bigger and more awake.
