Otoplasty
Ear Surgery
As specialists in facial enhancement procedures for women and men, the surgeons at Macleod Trail Plastic Surgery perform otoplasty (cosmetic ear surgery) in patients looking for a more refined and less prominent appearance to their ears.
Cosmetic ear surgery, technically called Otoplasty, typically serves two functions: setting prominent ears back closer to the head and reducing the size of large ears. Surgery may also be helpful for large or stretched earlobes, including stretched piercings and related trauma.
You can start your personal transformation by requesting a consultation online to meet privately with one of our plastic surgeons or call our office at (403) 452-7953 to schedule an appointment.
Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
During surgery, a small incision is made behind the ear, revealing the cartilage, which is then sculpted into its new position and stitched into place. A bandage is wrapped around the head for approximately five days to protect the new positioning. Both ears may be operated on to achieve better balance, even if only one has a problem.
Otoplasty can be performed under a local or general anesthetic depending on several factors, and we will discuss it during your consultation. Patients may experience discomfort for several days to weeks. It is recommended to wear a headband to bed for up to a month after surgery to protect the surgical reconstruction.
Surgery to repair stretch or torn earlobes secondary to piercings is done under a local anesthetic and typically heals with minimal pain and results in a fine scar. However, 3-4 months are usually required for healing before a new piercing can be placed.
